An access log is a complete list of all the files which were accessed by the guests of a given website. Each and every file that was requested for some reason will be listed, so if you have one webpage with three embedded graphics, one video and one embedded text file, as an example, the access log will contain a total of six entries - one for each of the 6 files which were accessed when the visitor opened the page. A log normally offers the file name and path, the date, plus the visitor’s OS, Internet browser and IP address. In some cases you could also find the referrer Internet sites that sent the visitors to your website. The info an access log file includes is in human-readable plain text format. It can be processed by special software on a personal computer and used to write reports on the overall performance of a site, independent of the web statistics which your hosting server may have created.

Access Log Manager in Website Hosting

Our custom-built Hepsia CP features a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. Once you sign in to your website hosting account and navigate to this section, you will find a list of all the domains and subdomains you have. All it takes to permit the generation of access logs is to click on a button that will be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. When the option is enabled, you will see a download link together with the file size so far, so you'll be able to save the file to your computer and view it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective instantly, so if you don't need one, you may stop it with just a click from the same section of the CP. You'll still have the ability to access the already developed content by simply clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, it won't take more than a couple of mouse clicks to enable the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The feature can be activated from the Hepsia website hosting Control Panel and this could be done independently for every single domain or subdomain which you have in your account. After you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you will see a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each one. A single click shall enable the log generation and a second one will deactivate it, so you can control this function with great ease. A Download link in the same section will enable you to save the created content as a text file, which you can then use on your personal computer. Even when the logs are deactivated, you'll still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
